Serra Goes to the Movies is a periodic event sponsored by the Serra Club of North-Minneapolis. Our mission with this activity is to support the efforts of filmmakers who are producing uplifting movies shown in local theaters. Our favorite movies are those that are Catholic-oriented. Our secondary mission is to support the local theaters that are providing a place to view these wonderful films. Often these movies will be shown in theater for only a day or two. Frequently we try to see a movie multiple times, at various theaters, to spread out our patronage.
We often make new friends with other viewers, like priests, seminarians, and other Catholics, while discussing the film in the lobby before or after the show. Typically, we Serrans each drive separately and meet at a particular theater for a specific showing. Other times, we will carpool or meet for lunch or dinner, either before or after the movie. We invite you to join us in supporting good, wholesome entertainment and enriching your Catholic faith.
Feel free to invite your family and friends as it is a great way to evangelize.
See you at the movies!
UPCOMING MOVIES
MAY 2026
This month we are actually going to a live production play, instead of a movie!!! On May 16, 2026 we are taking a special field trip to Open Window Theatre in Inver Grove Heights to see the new play, “Joan of Arc.”

We have purchased 10 tickets for the 2:00 pm showing on Saturday, May 16th. One of our members is now not able to join us, so we have one ticket available for you! We will be meeting in the parking lot at St William Catholic Church in Fridley at 11:30 am, carpooling to lunch at 12:15 pm at Mallards in Inver Grove Heights, and then on to the play at Open Window Theater at 1:30 pm. Artistic Director, Jeremy Stanbary, brings the incredible story of Joan of Arc to life. Cutting through the darkness and depravity of her times, and in the face of tremendous adversity, this unknown teenage peasant girl would go on to lead armies of men, winning decisive victories both militarily and spiritually, changing the course of the Hundred Years’ War and leaving an indelible imprint on the French nation, on the Catholic Church, and on human history down to our very day.
You are welcome to join us for lunch at Mallards and at the play “Joan of Arc” on Saturday, May 16th, pre-ordered tickets are required and going fast. We are meeting in the St William’s parking lot on 5/16/26 at 11:30 am and will return at about 5:00 pm. Call Maureen Collins at 612-850-3003 for more details.
JUNE 2026

SACRED HEART is a new docudrama that invites you into the heart of Jesus as revealed to a French nun named Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque 350 years ago. Today, the mystery of the Sacred Heart continues to draw men and women from around the world. In the17th-century, St. Margaret Mary has been hand-picked by Jesus to be His special disciple of His Sacred Heart. Through a series of apparitions at Paray-le-Monial, Jesus reveals His Heart to her. Through the centuries, countless others have been drawn to encounter the transformative power and beauty of the Sacred Heart. The film intertwines the saint’s story with testimonies of healing and the love of God from priests, nuns, historians, and theologians who share insights about the beauty of Jesus’ message. It explores the role of the Virgin Mary as the first vessel of Jesus’ Heart and the way the Eucharist connects us to the Sacred Heart’s Divine love. SACRED HEART is an invitation to experience the mystery of this timeless devotion.
This film will be showing at select Twin Cities theaters this June 9, 10, 11, & 14 only.
The bishops of the United States have voted to consecrate our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as part of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations in 2026.
